The Model

Looking at Sargent
I'll bet you weren't aware that George is equally accomplished at painting the figure. He has clocked thousands of hours life drawing and painting since high school. In 1978-79, George spent 8 months copying giants such as Ingres, Hals, Rembrandt, Titian, and Vermeer at the Louvre in Paris. He has had commissions painting children, the members of entire families and has relied on our three daughters as ready models from an early age. It is with joy that we are passing the portraits of them in the garden, reading on the sofa, and coloring on the floor to them now that they have their own homes. The grandchildren are waiting to be captured on canvas too.
I've added five 36 x 30 inch figure pieces to the Figurative Collection on George's website that he recently retouched. We are so lucky to have willing models who know the family to sit for George (and be paid well of course). The local history of the many models Norman Rockwell used from our town has paved the way for this endeavor.
These larger pieces will make a beautiful addition for any serious art collector. And if we are locked down in our tiny bubbles for another year, these models could even become your friends. Visit the website: www.georgevanhookfineartist.com, click on Works/ Figurative and voila, meet the women!
